Royal Scotland - Balmoral, Scone & Queen's View

Resort - Blairgowrie

Overview

Lying at the foot of the Grampians, Blairgowrie ("Plain of Gowrie" in Scottish Gaelic) has been occupied continuously since the Neolithic period: numerous flint and bronze artefacts have been found in the immediate area. The town's centrepiece is the Wellmeadow, a grassy triangle on which regular markets and shows are held. Blairgowrie Golf Club, founded in 1889, has two 18 hole courses and a 9 hole course. Highland Games are held annually on Bogles Field and are noted for the mass tug o'war between the entire populations of Blairgowrie and Rattray.

Day 2 - Balmoral Castle & Royal Deeside

  • Venture north into the glorious Cairngorm National Park as we make our way through the spectacular scenery of Royal Deeside to reach Balmoral Castle. The much-loved home of the Royal Family in Scotland, the castle was purchased for Queen Victoria by Prince Albert in 1852 and remains a firm favourite with the Royal Family visiting every year. Explore the spectacular gardens, grounds and exhibitions as well as the splendid ballroom.

Day 3 - Pitlochry & Queen's View

  • We make a photo stop at Queen’s View – a majestic viewpoint which overlooks Loch Tummel and so-called because Queen Victoria once admired this glorious outlook. We continue the day with a visit to Pitlochry – this attractive town is a delight to explore with thriving shops and charming cafes in which to relax.

Day 4 - Scone Palace & Perth

  • Visit Scone Palace – the Crowning Place of Scottish Kings and the original home of the legendary Stone of Destiny. Generations of the Murray family have resided here and over the centuries and have played host to visitors coming to attend parliaments and coronations, marriages and funerals banquets and grand balls and today you can follow in the footsteps of 42 Scottish Kings to admire the stunning art, architecture and gardens on display here. We continue on to call at the ‘fair city’ of Perth which is set on the River Tay and spanned by two beautiful bridges.
